The figures on this platform
Figures here are illustrative
The values shown across these dashboards, charts and reports are sample values used to demonstrate the structure of the platform and the way information is presented. They are not official statistics and must not be cited as measurements of any real population, place or period. For authoritative figures, consult the original publisher named in each source line.
Everything else on this page describes how we intend the platform to be used once it carries live material, and applies equally to that material.
General information only
Material here is published for general information and public understanding. It is not professional advice of any kind — not legal, financial, planning, engineering, medical or safety advice — and it is not a substitute for advice from someone qualified and accountable in the relevant field.
If a decision carries consequences of that sort, work from the original source material, and take professional advice where it is warranted. We are a starting point, not an authority.
Limits worth holding in mind
- We are an intermediary
- We assemble, organise and explain material collected by others. We do not collect it, and we cannot vouch for the accuracy of what a source publishes. Where a source is known to have limits, we describe them.
- Comparability is limited
- Figures from different jurisdictions, periods or publishers are frequently not comparable, even when they carry the same name. Where we have standardised something to make a comparison possible, the panel says what was standardised and what was lost.
- Everything is provisional
- Statistical material is revised as late returns arrive and models are re-estimated. A figure you read today may differ from the same figure next quarter. That is the process working, not failing.
- Nothing here is a forecast
- Every series ends at the last observed period. We publish no projections and no scenarios, and a rising line is not a prediction.
- Absence is not evidence
- A measure that does not appear here is usually missing because no comparable public source exists, not because the thing it would measure is unimportant or absent.
- Aggregates conceal distributions
- A median, a rate or a national total tells you nothing about the spread beneath it. Where the distribution matters more than the average, we say so on the panel, but the caution is general.
External sources and links
We link to source publications so readers can check our work. Those sites are outside our control. We are not responsible for their content, availability or practices, and a link is not an endorsement of the publisher or of anything else they publish.
