Transit indicator moves to a monthly cycle

Nine of the fourteen reporting transit systems now publish operating statistics monthly. The transit boardings indicator has moved to a monthly cadence for those nine, with the remaining five carried forward from their most recent annual return and marked accordingly on the panel. The annual series is retained unchanged so that longer comparisons remain possible. Readers who cite the annual figure do not need to change anything; readers who want the current month should note that it covers nine systems, not fourteen.

Revision

2024 waste diversion revised for three municipalities

Two municipalities restated organics tonnage following an internal audit, and a third corrected a unit conversion error affecting its 2024 return. Adopting the restated figures moves the 2024 national diversion rate from 33.9 per cent to 33.6 per cent. The 2025 figure is unaffected. All three panels carrying the 2024 value have been marked, and the previous values remain in the revision log with the date of change. This is a source revision rather than a correction on our part.

New collection

Household energy retrofits published

A new set of five indicators covering programme-supported retrofits is now live within the environment collection: retrofits completed, measure type, median measured gas consumption change, median measured electricity consumption change, and building stock age of participating homes. The collection draws on provincial programme reporting and utility summaries for twelve months before and after each upgrade. Coverage is incomplete in three provinces and the panels say where.

Quarterly housing and construction refresh

Starts, completions, units under construction and permit series have been refreshed to the first quarter of 2026. Two provinces revised prior quarters as late returns arrived; affected charts carry a revision marker. Average construction duration for apartment structures has been extended by one month to 26.4, the sixth consecutive quarter of lengthening.

Every chart now carries a keyboard-reachable data table

Following feedback from two external accessibility reviewers, all twenty-two graphics now expose their underlying values as a data table that opens without a mouse and is announced correctly by screen readers. Individual data points were already keyboard reachable; the table addresses the case where a reader wants the values rather than the shape. The change is described in the accessibility statement.

Completions in mid-sized cities published

A four-year review of housing completions in thirty-one cities of between 100,000 and 500,000 residents, with the per-capita comparison reported both including and excluding projects above 300 units. The data appendix contains the reconstructed completions series and the boundary definitions applied to each city.

Transit ridership since 2019 published

A comparable linked-trip measure rebuilt for fourteen systems, with a full crosswalk between each agency’s published figure and the comparable one. The report finds recovery associated more strongly with off-peak service restoration than with total service hours.

Rural broadband report and connectivity refresh

The availability report publishes alongside the annual refresh of the connectivity panel. Availability at 50/10 Mbps reaches 95.7 per cent of households nationally and 78.3 per cent in rural areas. The report quantifies the average 14 point divergence between area-level availability and measured household experience in rural service areas.

Methodology version 4.2 in force

Version 4.2 adds the cold-read presentation review as a required stage, formalises the separation between revisions and corrections, and adds coverage or response rate to the mandatory source register fields. The full document is published on the methodology page and supersedes version 4.1.

Public services panel refreshed

Library annual returns, childcare registry counts and service wait medians refreshed for 2025. Library in-person visits rose 8.4 per cent to 3.1 per resident, remaining below the 2019 level of 4.3. Programme attendance passed its 2019 level for the first time.

Five separate measures of library use reported separately, with documentation of the 2021 counting change for digital catalogue sessions that produces a visible step in the national series.

Ninety-two municipalities scored on dataset existence, machine readability, schema stability and change log publication. The full rubric and per-municipality scores are included in the appendix so that any municipality can reproduce or contest its score.
